This will not be much of a surprise for our member!
Unfortunately the weather conditions within Cape Breton Regional Municipality have rendered the sidewalks impassable and there does not appear to be anyway in which this situation will be cleared up before the first scheduled walk of the season begins.
Our walk leader and the trails coordinator have decided to cancel this event.
We will not reschedule this event.
Our scheduled walk event in North Sydney on 12 April will remain in effect unless conditions continue as they are the present time!
Group Walk Events within towns and villages depend on safe sidewalk conditions especially in high traffic areas, and at this time those conditions cannot be met.
WALK EVENT - SPECIAL NOTICE - LOST WALKING POLE
WALK EVENT:
For those of us who are not heading south for the spring break, lets get together for a walk event!
With all the snow on the ground at this moment it is unimaginable that the first day of spring will soon be here.
Spring arrives on Friday 20 March and shortly thereafter the CB Island Hoppers will be out for our first Guided Walk Event for the 2015 season.
CANCELLED
The Guided Walk starts and end at Cambridge Suites, 380 Esplanade Sydney.
Road and sidewalk conditions and the trails within the parks will determine our route, we will use as much of our Permanent Trail/Year Round Event Trail as is possible.
Participants can decide for themselves to do 10k or 5k
SPECIAL NOTICE:
Please note that the "Term" Year Round Event (YRE) has been changed to Permanent Trail or (PT).
For the CBIH this refers to the five designated map walk events that we have setup in the communities of Baddeck, Glace Bay, North Sydney, Louisbourg and North Sydney.
You or friends can do these self guided map walks on your own and not wait for the PT Group Guided Walk Event.
This is in keeping with the designation outlined by our national office The Canadian Volkssport Federation (CVF).
Permanent Trails are setup in communities across Canada and are also part of the American Volkssport Association (AVA) mandate as well.
This allows world wide volkssporters to accumulate DISTANCE AND EVENT STAMPS from other participating volkssport countries.
As an example, if you as a member of CBIH are visiting NY or Las Vegas, Vancouver, Halifax or Toronto then check out the local club in that area and do their Permanent Trail and get another province or USA Stamp in your record books, these are also available in Europe, China, Australia and many other places.
When traveling make sure you have plenty of spaces available in your Canadian Record Books as it maybe difficult to get new ones in other locations. The same with our US friends they should have USA Books as some organizations will not recognize the insert sheets that we provide.
