WALK EVENT AND POT LUCK DINNER

A former pot luck dinner, Cheticamp Island, hosted by Barb and Cal Thistle's at their campsite. A great weekend of walking for fun, fitness, friendship and OOOH! the FOOD!

Walk Event is Sunday 29 June, Registration begins at 1:30 pm and the walk starts at 2:00 pm.

Start Point is 5476 Hwy 255 (Mira Gut)

From Sydney take  Hwy 22 ( Sydney/ Louisbourg Hwy), turn left on Horne's Rd., continue to the stop sign at intersection of Horne's & Hwy 255, turn left towards Homeville.

House # 5476 is on the left side of the road

Pot Luck will take place at the Start Point immediately after the walk event.

WALK WITH THE ISLAND HOPPERS SATURDAY 07 JUNE INTERNATIONAL TRAILS DAY

The Cape Breton Island Hoppers will celebrate International Trails Day on Saturday 07 June.

This years event will take place in Mabou with two walk events, the first event will start registering at 09:30 and will leave at 10:00 am.

The second walk event begins registration at 1:30 pm and will step off at 2:00 pm.

NOTE: there is two IVV Event and Distance awards stamps, available for this event if you choose to do both the morning and afternoon walks.

Both Events Start at the parking lot at Mabou River Inn next door to The Lady of Sorrows Pioneer Shrine, South West Ridge Road, B0E 1X0.

Once again Pathways is co-hosting an International Trails Day event at Mabou.  Read on and please do come out and join us for what promises to be a great event!

Mabou, NS. May 27, 2007 - The 6th Annual International Trails Day is Saturday, June 7, 2007. In western Cape Breton, the event will be hosted by the new Mabou River Trails Association. International Trail Day event host partners include Inverness County Trails Federation, Cape Breton Pathways Association, and NSTrails. MRTA welcomes trail enthusiasts young and old from across Cape Breton to this event. International Trails Day is a day dedicated to celebrate trails, their development, uses and the healthy lifestyle they encourage.

Mabou River Trail Association’s Co-chairs Daniel Rankin and Dawn Beaton would like to welcome one and all to their first trail event since forming this spring. “We would like to welcome everyone to come out, experience our scenic Mabou River Trail on the Trans Canada Trail in Mabou and help celebrate International Trail’s Day.” Blaise MacEachern, Chair of the Inverness County Trans Canada Trail Project said, “We are exited to have this newest community trail group form in Mabou. They will have lots of help and encouragement from other volunteer trail groups in Inverness County”.

The local school students and the general public are encouraged to join in the celebration. The event registration starts at 9:30 am at the Mabou River Inn with a 15 kilometer return bike and 10 km return hike event starting at 10:00 am. Cycling helmets will be mandatory. Bicycles must be in good mechanical repair and be of mountain bike durability as trail not suitable for road bikes.

The day will feature a “slowest bike race”, free pizza and BBQ, and great prizes. Some lucky participant will win a mountain bike courtesy of J&T Van Zutphen Construction. Featured participants will include the Cape Breton Island Hoppers, members of the international Volkswalk organization. Other sponsors for this family fun day include Central Inverness Community Health Board, Inverness County Recreation Department, Mabou River Inn and Ceilidh Fisherman’s Co-Op.
