Come early and bring along a picnic lunch before the walk event

Note: For those interested there is a very quaint, picturesque lighthouse in Battery Provincial Park. A good photo opportunity.

Baille Ard Trail Beat the Clock Walk/Run Race


Beat the Clock:
Tomorrow, Saturday, 23 April 2011, at 9am
the Baille Ard Nature Trails Association will
present a 5k walk/run. in Baille Ard. Registration
is at the Sherwood Park Education Centre at 9am. Start
time is 10am. Fee $10 with all proceeds going to the
Whitney Pier Youth Club. The countdown timer starts at 50 minutes. You
leave whenever you want after the timer starts.


Saturday, April 23, Registration 9 AM, Race Start 10 AM
Start/Finish at Sherwood Park Junior High School, Terrace Street, Sydney
Registration fee $10 with proceeds to the Whitney Pier Youth Club
Open to anyone of any age who can walk or run 5K's in 50 minutes or less. Start at any time after the 50 minute countdown timer begins. The winner is the one who finishes closest to 0 minutes on the clock. No watches permitted!

Carol White’s Ozark Cake

Recipe from the CNVC Newsletter.

Carol White, from the Central Nova Volkssport Club, Truro, made this dessert for the "Ring in the New Year Walk event". It was very popular and members asked for the recipe.

Carol White’s Ozark Cake

1 cup sugar

¼ tsp salt

1 cup flour

1 beaten egg

1 tsp baking soda

1-11oz can Mandarin oranges-chopped

  1. Combine all ingredients and beat with a mixer
  2. Put into 8x8 inch pan and bake at 350 for 40 minutes
  3. Let cool
  4. In a saucepan, mix ¼ cup brown sugar, 2 tbsp butter, 2 tbsp milk. Heat on stove for 10 minutes. Add ½ cup chopped pecans
  5. Pour over top of cake, place under broiler until mixture bubbles and is golden brown. Remove from oven and cool

2011 MARATHON EVENT

2011 COBEQUID TRAIL 42KM MARATHON

 

Saturday September 10 - Start point Holiday Inn Select,actual parking in the Prince St parking lot to the right of the Holiday inn

8:30 am 42km Marathon people will start Registration at 8 am

The marathon will be self guided. There will be signs, check points and a bicycle patrol. From the hotel we will go to the Cobequid trail (rail bed) to the Old Barns church. We will have a check point at the church which will be open (lunch, your back packs, bathroom etc). Then we will walk the Shore Road (gravel road) to the turn around spot and retrace your steps.

9:00 am - the 15 km and 20km will start. Registration at 8:30 am

Also self guided. The turn around spots will be marked.

10:00am-5km and 10km will start. Registration at 9:30am

These walks will be guided walks.

There will also be a Truro summer alternate walk on Sept 10th at 2 pm. in Victoria Park with Ibel Scammell leading.
