WALK EVENTS

CANADA DAY WALK EVENT

Petersfields Provincial Park, 1188 Westmount Road

Wednesday 1 July 2015

Registration begins at 8:30am

Walk Start Time 9:00

Participants can select 5k and 10k routes

Get into the spirit of the day and wear something red for this occasion!

INGONISH BEACH/MIDDLE HEAD TRAIL

Sunday 12 July

Registration 1:30pm

Start Time: 2:00pm

From Hwy 105 take Exit 11 going passed the Gaelic College and continue on the Cabot Trail to Ingonish. The Start Point for the walk event is Ingonish Beach (Google Maps show our Start Point as 90 Beach Road!!) Note: English Town Ferry is operating at this time but we (CBIH) are not responsible for cost or if not operating, so please give yourself plenty of driving time to be on time for the walk event!!!!!

NORTH RIVER TRAILS:


A CB ISLAND HOPPERS sponsored event will take place at North River on Sunday 26 July @ 2pm. We will be doing  a 5k and 10k Walk Event along the North River Trail towards a popular fishing pool and return.
We will not be going to the North River Big Falls!


FYI:

Just in case anyone would be interested in walking to the North River Big Falls, "Hike The Highlands" is doing  a guided hike into The Big Falls on Saturday , Sept 19 at 9:00 am (18 K).

Baseball Caps
David Hall is placing an order on July 13th for Volkssport hats.  The baseball style caps are cotton and will have the CVF logo on the front and the half maple leaf and walks.ca on the back.  The hats will be black with red printing.  Price is $15 each including delivery.  Deliveries to each city will be grouped where ever possible.  Payment can be by cheque (payable to the Volkssport Association of Alberta), cash or by credit card. FRENCH BASIN TRAIL PARKING LOT HIGHWAY 1 ANNAPOLIS ROYAL, NOVA SCOTIA 

The Town of Annapolis Royal has acquired a piece of land in order to extend their trail system connecting the Town with the French Basin Trail.

On Saturday, July 11, 2015, this trail will be dedicated as the “John Rodie Way” in honour of John’s service and commitment to the Town of Annapolis Royal.

A Bench will be placed on this trail as a memorial for all the work John has done for the Recreation of Annapolis Royal and the Volkssporting Community. 

Following the Dedication of the trail the Valley Trekkers will lead a walk through the Town of Annapolis Royal in memory of John.

Please plan to join us for the event.

Everyone is Welcome. Saturday, July 11, 2-4 pm A Memorial Celebration of John’s Life will be held at the Annapolis Royal Regional Academy Gymnasium, 590 St. George Street, Annapolis Royal.

Volkssport clubs in Nova Scotia has lost an excellent walk leader, a reliable volunteer, a former Board member for both the Dartmouth and Valley clubs, and most of all - a fine gentleman.

Please come out and join the family, community and fellow volkssporters in the Celebration of John’s Life.

WEDNESDAY WALK EVENT

CBIH Members,
 A reminder that CB Island Hoppers will have a Wednesday Group Guided Walk Event.
Glace Bay Permanent Trail, Starting at the COOP Gas Bar 99 Reserve Street Glace Bay.
Wednesday 24 June 2015
Meet -up at 1:30pm for Registration and we will step off at 2:00pm
Participants can select 5k or 10k.
Please note that there is limited parking at the Gas Bar so we will meet in the Adjacent parking lot "The Bargain Basket". Come early and shop for a bargain!!
Also note that the COOP Gas Bar will be renamed very soon and at this moment the management will consider my request to keep our walk box for this year!
 
If your not able to make this Group Guided Walk  Event then why not come out on your own or with a couple of friends, or with your pet, and sign-in on your own, ask for the Walk Box, stamp your IVV Books for Distance and Events and participate in our Permanent Trail Events.
CBIH maintains Five (5)Permanent Trails in Cape Breton at convenient locations such as Louisbourg, Sydney, North Sydney, Baddeck and in Glace Bay as noted above.

Roots to Boots Festival

The first annual Roots to Boots Festival will
be held in the communities of Chéticamp and
Louisbourg from June 11 to 14, 2015 with a
unique blend of entertainment engineered
to please cultural enthusiasts: Storytelling,
hiking, food, local-flavour concerts, song
writers’ circle and late night square dances.

“Cram-a lot-in” at the Louisbourg Firehall!
6:00-10:00 PM: Fishcakes and beans along with
local NFLD entertainment. Cash bar, must be 19+ to

Hike the Lighthouse Coastal Trail
2:30-5:00 PM: As you walk this beautiful trail, discover
stories of the history and nature of this area.
Start Point - Kennelly Point picnic area. Distance: 5k -
10k, Rating: 2A, 2B
This walk will be led by the Cape Breton Island Hoppers

The Louisbourg Playhouse will be host to a square

Uillean piper and singer from Newfoundland,
Daniel Payne, accompanied by Shirley Montague and
Bernard Felix. Tickets $15. Cash bar, 19+ event.

2.  Saturday, June 13

Hike the Old Town and Fortress of Louisbourg
Trails

2:30 PM: Walk back in time as you walk along
the Old Town Trail and venture inside the mighty
Fortress of Louisbourg. Your guides will tell you
stories of the “Old Town” from the 20th century
to the 18th century.
Start Point Royal Battery, Kennington Cove Road
Distance: 5k - 10k, Rating: 2A, 2B
This walk will be led by the Cape Breton Island
Hoppers Volkssport Club

6:00 PM: Beggar’s Banquet at the Point of
View Suites

A tantalizing evening of lobster and crab, storytelling
and tales.

Cape Breton Island Hoppers Trails Day within the CB Regional Area:

SCHEDULE/START CARD INFORMATION HAS BEEN GIVEN OUT AT RECENT WALK EVENTS

This is a multi-trails day event, a total of 20k for the day, ending with a BBQ

The first trail of the day will begin on Sunday 14 June, Registration will start at 07:30am and we step off at 08:00am
The Start Point is the parking lot at 1188 Westmount Road, Westmount, Petersfield Provincial Park.

Participants who have their Schedule/Start Cards are asked to bring them to the Walk Event.

Some copies will be available at the First Trail or you can email bretonhoppers@hotmail.com and we will send you a copy.
