Baille Ard Trail Introductory Walkabout and Baddeck YRE

WALKABOUT

DATE: SATURDAY,10:00 AM, 09 MAY 2009

LOCATION: Baille Ard Trail, Sherwood School, Terrace Street Entrance

This is the first in a series of  introductory theme walkabouts hosted by the Baille Ard Trail Association, that will take place throughout the spring and summer months. Saturdays walk will be lead by Elsie Buck and Joe MacKinnon who will be introducing the trail system of the Baille Ard to those interested in all of the trails and how they are connected to each other. Other walkabouts during the year will introduce speakers examining the ecology of the system, birds and animals, trees and the undergrowth etc.

A good warm up for the Island Hoppers going to the afternoon walk in Baddeck.

 

BADDECK YEAR ROUND EVENT AND WORLD WALKING DAY

DATE: SATURDAY: 14:00 Hours/2:00 PM, 09 MAY 2009

START POINT: Chebucto Street Parking Lot across the street from The Telegraph House

REGISTRATION: 13:30 Hours/1:30 PM

START/WALK TIME: 14:00 Hours/ 2:00 PM

WALK DISTANCE(S): 5 Km and 10 Km Your choice.

CVF RATING: 1B, This is a walk around the Community of Baddeck and is registered as part of the CVF National "Lighthouse Walk' program.

SPECIAL WALK EVENTS TROY TO PORT HOOD

The Cape Breton Island Hoppers Volkssport Club will be sponsoring the Annual 42KM Marathon Walk Event that is held in Nova Scotia at various locations throughout the province.

SATURDAY 12 September, 2009

Start now by working out for the event, Meet Joe and Elsie at the Cambridge Suites at 10 AM every Tuesday and Friday and every other Sunday at 2PM, when we do not have a scheduled walk event on our yearly calendar of events.

There will be various walk times and distances available for all participants.

We recognize that all members are not inclined to challenge themselves to the entire 42Km Event, therefore we have setup a program of various distances to allow all members to participate during the day.

The 42km Event Starts at 08:00 Hrs/8 AM, Registration ends at 09:00 Hrs/9 AM for the main walk event.

The Marathon Walkers will continue on a linear style walk (one way) to a finish line located approximately in or near Port Hood.

Support Vehicles will be available thru out the day along the trail.

Walkers who want to do 20 and 30 Km's are asked to register at 09:00 Hrs/9 AM until 10:00 Hrs/10 AM.

To achieve the 20 Km event participants will walk 10k in one direction and return to the Start Point for a total of 20 Km's and the 30 K will continue for 15 km's and return for a total of 30 km's.

Shorter Distances of 5, 10 and 15kms will start at the usual traditional CBIH time of 14:00 Hrs/2 PM and registration will begin at 13:30 Hrs/1:30 PM

The Walk Event will Start at the new Ceilidh Trail parking lot on Highway 19 in the Community of Troy.

The parking lot is on the west side of the Highway and is 1.4Km from the convenience store known as "Downtown Troy".

CBIH SIGNS WILL BE POSTED ON THE HIGHWAY AND AT THE ENTRANCE TO THE PARKING LOT.

A brochure on the walk Event and the evening dinner is available at all walk events or by email by request.

Registration forms for the dinner at the Hall in Judique are available with the "Marathon Brochure" and must be sent into the registrar by 23 August.

Come out and walk for Fun, Fitness and Friendship with your fellow club members and then enjoy a social evening of FOOD at the Judique hall.
