PORT HOOD DAY PARK WALK EVENT & DRIVING DIRECTIONS

This is what our club, The Cape Breton Island Hoppers, are all about "exploring and traveling throughout the island", finding those special places where most CB's and visitors may not see when driving across the island.
The Walk Event will continue Rain or Shine, so please be prepared for the conditions.
Come join us for a group Guided Walk, and bring along a friend.
Come early, bring along your own picnic lunch, and enjoy the Port Hood Day Park before the walk event.
Date: Sunday, 10 July 2011
Time: Registration begins 1:30pm, Walk Event Starts 2:00pm
Walk Leader(s): Julie Dziach with co-leader Elsie Buck
Walk Distance: 5k & 10K
Rated: 2B (moderate hills and on well groomed trails with very little difficult terrain).
DRIVING DIRECTIONS:
The walk event in the Port Hood area will begin at the "Port Hood Day Park"
From CBRM or other locations:
If you are traveling from the Causeway and Port Hastings area going north, the park is located on the west side of Highway 19 (water side and Port Hood Island is across from the park) and about 200 meters before the "WELCOME TO PORT HOOD" sign.
Traveling from the Mabou area (south) along Highway 19 continue past Port Hood and the park is located on your right (west side of the road).
For those participants who did the 42K marathon you may recognize the area, as it is very near the finish point of that extraordinary walk event.
ALL DRIVERS, Special Note on Directions using Google Maps/ or simply use an old fashion paper map
Check out Google maps! According to  map directions it is a shorter route (30kms less) from CBRM to travel to Mabou and then follow Hwy 19 to Port Hood: On the "map section" , "Directions", of Google, simply type in your home Postal Code and the GENERAL POSTAL CODE for Port Hood B0E 1X0 (Note, this will give you the general directions  to Port Hood, not the Day Park) this will give you 3 optional routes to the Port Hood area!

Healthy Feet:
Now I know! Why I was never and will never be a proponent of the ugly flip flop, especially for short or long distance walking!! RFC!
A Quote from Doctor Sutera, D.P.M.
"Most flip-flops don't have adequate arch support, cushioning, or shock absorption," says Manhattan-based foot doctor Jacqueline Sutera, D.P.M. Wearing them all summer, every summer could lead to pinched foot nerves, heel pain, tendinitis, and strained arches. If you can't quit flops entirely, buy ones that have at least a three-quarter-inch semi-cushioned sole and built-in arch support. Even better, go for a strappy sandal; simple thongs force your toes into an unhealthy clenched position when you walk, encouraging hammertoe growth. Or try cute, beachy wedges (three inches high or less), which offer more support in just about every foot area and help distribute your body weight more evenly.
