Everyone of all ages and all abilities, are always welcomed to join us for a scheduled walk and why not bring along a friend as well.

Please don't forget to sign in before the walk.

Pre-Registration for all walks begin 30 minutes (ie:1:30pm) before we step off, Start Time means "when we step off" (ie: 2:00pm).

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIPS can be paid at the Start Point to our "Membership Committee Chairperson" Carmel Coffin.

Copies of Discover Atlantic Canada Through VOLKSSPORTS, 2011 edition (the "Blue Book") are also available at the Start Point.

Citizen Representation on CBRM Active Transportation Advisory Committee

The following information has been sent out by Cape Breton Regional Municipality.

It would be a great  opportunity to have one of our CBIH members apply for this position, at the present time Elsie Buck and Rollie Coombes have been serving on a similar committee mapping the walking trails within CBRM and it would be more advantageous to have others within the CBIH to work on this newer  committee; please see the instructions below, the more volunteers the better for the walking community within our region.

CALL FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
by:  CBRM's Department of Culture, Recreation and Facilities 
Citizen Representation on Cape Breton Regional Municipality Active Transportation Advisory Committee 
The Council of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality is seeking the volunteer services of five (5) citizens who would be willing to have their names considered for service on the Cape Breton Regional Municipality’s Active Transportation Advisory Committee. 
Interested residents of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality should forward a letter of application, together with a resume, noting their interest and experience with issues relating to active transportation, to the undersigned by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 2011. 
The successful candidates will be appointed by the Cape Breton Regional Municipal Council. 
The AT Advisory Committee will be comprised of five Members at Large and two members of CBRM Council. Members may be appointed as individuals or as representatives of registered non-profit organizations. 
In selecting members, CBRM will seek to ensure that the committee reflects the geographic and ethnic diversity of the community, and if possible the committee shall include representatives from the following: Mobility challenged persons, Youth, Cyclists/cycling organizations, Walkers/walking organizations, Business and Seniors. A background in transportation engineering, preventative health care, or physical education would be considered assets. 
The Active Transportation Advisory Committee should have a minimum of four meetings per year. The Committee shall designate one of the meetings as an Annual Meeting. 
The Committee’s role is to advise Council on the implementation of the CBRM Active Transportation Plan, and on active transportation matters generally. 
The CBRM departments of Planning, Engineering, Public Works, Recreation and Police shall appoint a minimum of one staff person to attend meetings of the Committee in an ex officio capacity. These staff persons shall also be members of a staff AT Plan committee which will meet monthly to oversee day to day activities related to implementation of the AT Plan. In addition, various government departments, governmental organizations and NGOs shall be invited to appoint one person to attend the meetings in an ex officio capacity.

2011 First Walk Event

Group Guided Walk Event: Sunday, 13 March, 2011
Time: Registration begins @ 1:30pm and we step off at 2:00pm

There will be an opportunity to enjoy some hot soup after the walk.

Also please note: there is now paid parking at the Cambridge Suites parking lot; however they will validate your ticket if using the restaurant after the event.There are lplenty of downtown parking spaces along the street on Sunday in nearby locations!
